Hydro Generator A (Cross Flow Turbine)

After calculating our 80kW shown on the
hydro home page.
The next is to get some prices so we went to source a hydro turbine.
Not always the easiest to do. At this stage we were unsure about the
type of turbine we were to use, but knew the flow and head of the
turbine.
Sourcing the turbine.
Some research of different turbines and manufactures was the task.
At one stage I approached a local Jet Boat manufacture and suggested
the idea of using a Jet unit and forcing water back through the Jet
unit by the head of the water. Then connecting the main shaft in the
jet unit to a motor (generator), this is turn would be connected to
the grid. The response was that there units would not work under a
low head (water pressure) and the efficiency would make the turbine
unviable.
However we continued and found a manufacture in Germany. After
little discussion we found them good to deal with. While over in
Europe I did a site visit to met the Owner and discus more in detail
about the product we were looking at, and also to have a look at the
factory.
The site visit:
Here is a fantastic example of two different sizes of cross flow
blades, as you can see they are very similar to a turbo heater.

One thing we noticed was the quality of workmanship which this Germany company illustrated to us.
The company had a very family atmosphere and as Fereday Island has
these same quality's we found a good relationship was formed.

Well there were a few good byes. We had achieved what we set out to
do.

The next steps to look at was someone to sell the power to.
Selling power in the New Zealand
Market.
