Hydro Generator B (Kaplan Turbine)
Renewable energy

This is our second turbine which went in. We calculated 80kW the same as the Ossberger Hydro Generator A (Cross Flow). This was calculated on the hydro home page.

With this turbine we looked for a local supplier and found a company based in Christchurch "Hydroworks".

The work.
We had discussions with Hydroworks and we agreed with them that they would complete the Turbine design and build and we would complete the control design and build.

There was a saving's here and a big learning curve which was fun.

With our experience with the crossflow we had a fair idea on how the control system for these turbines work.

So we got stuck in:

This is during construction as you can see we have a concrete slab for the first 750mm on the base of the building this is for any mud which may slip from the hill behind.

Here is a picture of the control boxes which we built ourselves. In this site we used mainly Schneider equipment, but as we have continued we have started using GE equipment.

The protection relay you can see in the picture is a Schneider Sepam G40.
